Conversation Analysis                                               

This conversation is taken from the Twilight film. In this conversation jacob is talking with Ana when they meet again after long time no see.

Extract 1 (SACANE 1- YARD HOUSE-LORKS- In the morning)

Jacob             : hi, i’m jacob(.)

Ana     : hi (.)

Jacob             : yeah(,) usually yaou make a cake when we was child (.)

Ana     : right(.) No(,) i don’t remember(.)

Jacob             : they are not stop it(.)

Ana     : right ( .)

Analysis of conversation

1.     Turn-taking

We can notice that this data extract consists of two turns at talk from different speakers. Jacob uses falling intonation to continue the conversation. In this conversation have same lenghs: the first is three units of talk, the second is three distinct unit.

2.     Adjacency Pairs

In this brief sequence, jacob  is the first air part (FPP) hi, i’m jacob in line 1. This type of utterance may be defined as greeting. It is a greeting to Ana who has the childhold. In the second line, Ana respons with the second pair part (SPP) hi. Which is interpretable of respons the the greeting. In this case, the SPP is preferred response because the statement is accepted by jacob who said “ hi, i’m jacob”.
